![]() ![]() Ken Viola would review every part of security and staffing not only in the venue but outside the venue. They key was to take the same notes and review them many times leading up to and implementing the show. Robby Taylor would look at all elements of the venue and make many suggestions and take careful notes. Let’s face it, a concert is a business deal, and they took their business very serious. I really enjoyed this but more than that I really respected this. They both wore a suit and tie, and it was mandatory that they have a chauffeur driven limousine. Both of these gentlemen would fly in to the city for the upcoming show prior to the tickets going on sale. Typically, this would include the Production Manager Robby Taylor and the security director for one of their 2 national tour promoters, in our case Ken Viola. One thing that they did that I really liked was an in person advance meeting. This is not necessarily a bad thing but as legendary concert impresario Bill Graham said, “they may not be the best at what they do but they are the only ones doing what they do” and he was spot on with that. The Grateful Dead including their crew / staff did things different from others. This particular show was very important to me as by this time in my career I had only worked with them one other time and it was a miserable experience. I am fascinated with the band, its crew and the many legendary stories and experiences. ![]() As many of my friends know I am a born again Deadhead. ![]()
